Upping oil production a priority for Jakarta

Jakarta: The government has set a goal to increase the archipelago’s oil production to 1m bpd by 2014. Production, which peaked in the 1990s, has been below 1m bpd since 2003 eventually leading the country to leave the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in 2008.

Currently only 40% of the 416 major oil fields are using enhanced oil recovery technology, according to government estimates.  [07/11/12]
