USCG evacuates master from chemical tanker

A US Coast Guard (USCG) helicopter aircrew successfully medevacked a vessel master from a chemical tanker near the Louisiana coast.

The man was suffering from chest pains while aboard the 2011-built FPMC 28 and a call was put out.

Within half an hour the helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans was at the scene near Southwest Pass at the mouth of the Mississippi River.

The man was taken to West Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Marrero, Louisiana, where he was in stable condition.

The ship, operated by Formosa Plastics Marine Corporation (FPMC) of Taiwan, was en route from Veracruz in Mexico to Houston, Texas.
