V.Group appoints new CEO

Maritime services company and world’s largest ship manager V.Group has appointed Ian El-Mokadem as its new chief executive officer.

El-Mokadem replaces ex-Maersk high-flyer Hanne Sørensen who was appointed to the role on an interim basis in May after Clive Richardson stepped down after eight years in charge of the company. El-Mokadem has moved from testing, calibration and related advisory services firm Exova where he was CEO for the last six years.

Additionally, Martin Gaard Christiansen has been appointed chief commercial officer. He joins from Wrist Ship Supply, and previous to his role there was the CEO for APM Terminals in the Asia Pacific region.

John Pattullo, chairman of V.Group, commented: “I am very pleased to welcome Ian and Martin to V.Group. The appointment of two such high calibre business leaders is testament to V.Group’s ambitions to consolidate its position as the global market leader in its sector. Their leadership, coupled with the recent completion of Advent International’s investment in the business, marks a critical new juncture in V.Group’s development. The new highly able and motivated leadership team, backed by Advent’s financial and operational experience, means the company is better placed than ever to deliver superior world-class solutions for its clients and shape the future of the ship management industry.”

V.Group says that both men will assume their positions with the company in autumn.
