Valemax heading for Shanghaiguan

Shanghai: Chinese media is awash with reports of a Valemax calling in the People’s Republic. The Vale Indonesia, one of the 400,000 dwt VLOCs controlled by Brazilian miner Vale, weighed anchor in the eastern anchorage of Qinhuangdao yesterday evening and has since moved on. Speculation is that the ship, which does not appear to be carrying much cargo, is headed for Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding for repair. The ship is anticipated to arrive at Shanghaiguan at 18.00hrs this evening.

Valemaxes have been barred in China since they were first built, a ban that has recently been updated with Beijing stipulating no bulkers above 250,000 dwt can call in China.  [07/02/14]
