Vietnam’s Prime Shipping in for Dong-A chemical tanker

Vietnam’s Prime Shipping Corporation is beefing up its fleet. The Southeast Asian tanker owner has bought the 12-year-old product tanker, Dong-A Pontus, from South Korea’s Dong-A Tanker for $10.3m.

The ship has already changed name to Prime Sky.

Prime Marine purchased its first vessel in 2007, and needs only one more ship to be able to boast a double-digit fleet list.

In addition the owner has been traveling around China looking at newbuiling opportunities. At the beginning of the year the active outfit signed shipbuilding contracts with Ningbo Xinle Shipbuilding for the construction of two 26,300 dwt chemical tankers with options to add another two.
