Viking Supply closes Newfoundland office

Viking Supply Ships will close its office in St. John’s, Newfoundland next week as part of ongoing cost-cutting measures.

After the office closes on April 28, commercial activities in Newfoundland and eastern Canada will be handled by personnel based in the company’s Copenhagen headquarters and its chartering division in Kristiansand, Norway.

Viking Supply commented it still considers the Canadian region “to be of strategic importance going forward and in the future”.

The Oslo-listed company has been hit hard by the depressed offshore services market. It recently agreed a standstill agreement to hold off action from its creditors, has laid up several vessels and has commenced negotiations with employees and unions to assess crewing issues with “the ambition to minimize lay-offs.”
