Vitiello brothers make dry bulk return to shipping

A famous Italian name in shipping is on the verge of making a dry bulk comeback. Brothers Luca (pictured) and Riccardo Vitiello are being widely tipped as closing a deal to buy the nine-year-old handysize Miss Simona from Unicredit Leasing for $8.5m with the ship expected to change hands next month.

The ship was taken over by the financial organisation when its original owner, Naples-based Perseveranza di Navigazone, ran into financial difficulty and entered restructuring.

The Ravenna-based Vitiellos sold their harbour towage business, Gesmar, a couple of years ago. Their father, Eduardo, many years ago ran a dry bulk business called Gecomar.
