Volumes shipped through Russia’s Northern Sea Route leap 25%

Latest statistics from Russia’s Ministry of Transport show that volumes shipped through the Arctic Northern Sea Route leapt 25% last year on the back of a swathe of new energy facilities opening up.

The biggest jump came in Sabetta on the Yamal Peninsula where Novatek’s Yamal LNG project started commercial production.

Russian president Vladimir Putin 10 months’ ago vowed to increase traffic through this 4,500 km long waterway tenfold by 2025.
