Wärtsilä still looking at Rolls-Royce’s marine business

Acquisitive Finnish ship technology giant Wärtsilä has not given up the chase for Rolls-Royce’s marine business.

In an interview with Reuters, Wärtsilä’s CEO Jaakko Eskola was still planning acquisitions, hot on the heels of making a EUR210m move for tech firm Transas last month, with the marine side of Rolls-Royce now under discussion. Rolls-Royce has been conducting a review of a possible sale of its marine business.

“We will investigate all possible acquisition cases if they would support our strategy. Rolls-Royce Marine is of course very close to our strategy,” Eskola told Reuters.

Wärtsilä missed its first quarter earnings expectations, citing a slower than expected paced recovery in shipping.
