Wenzhou to expand port area

Shanghai: Wenzhou Port has won approval from authorities to develop a new port area in Leqing.

The planned port area will occupy an area of 111.2 sq km. Phase one will add seven terminals with 43 berths. The designed annual cargo capacity of the new port area is 82m tonnes.

Wenzhou Port has already invested RMB3bn ($483.8m) to develop the project and will invest another RMB3bn in 2015.

“The new port area will ease the congestion pressure on the westbound shipping channel and greatly improve the operating efficiency of Wenzhou Port,” said an official from Wenzhou Port. [30/12/14]
