We’re into the final quarter of the decade, one of the most tumultuous periods in the history of commercial shipping. The past 10 years have seen the world’s merchant fleet change in structure, outlook and ownership like never before, but what have been the stories or themes that have shaped this decade in shipping more than any other?

Has it been the rise of green shipping or digitalisation or more singular events such as the collapse of Hanjin Shipping that stand out as the most important shipping news story of the decade?
