Winson in for another product tanker

Taiwanese tanker player Winson remains busy in the secondhand market, snapping up elderly MR tankers.

Last week brokers reported the 45,000 dwt product tanker Portland Pearl, (ex Maersk Claire), as sold by Union Maritime for around $9m. This tanker has already been renamed, Ocean Crystal and listed with the new beneficial owner, Winson, according to Equasis ship’s register.

This week sources link the active player to the sale of the 45,000 dwt Carla Maersk for $12m, directly from Maersk. A company official at Winson declined to comment.

Winson has been busy in the secondhand market this year buying a handful of ships. With this latest ship, Winson’s tally of older MR tankers will have reached five in 2015.

The company has also been shopping for two elderly 10,000 dwt chemical tankers.

Founded in 1998 privately owned Winson is involved in oil trading, bunkering and storage and terminal facilities. The company’s fleet list is fast approaching 20 ships.
