Worker chaos at Shin Yang Shipyard

Miri: Democratic Voice of Burma is reporting that nearly one hundred Burmese workers are hiding out inside a warehouse in Shin Yang Shipyard following a fight between two Burmese workers and an Indonesian worker.

The fight almost turned into a large brawl and a mob of Indonesian workers are said to have burnt down the Burmese worker dormitory at the yard. The workers say they are being threatened by the shipyard foremen and security guards to exit the warehouse but have called for riot police to come and ensure their safety first.

The yard is owned by Shin Yang Shipping Corporation and builds tugboats, barges, small-sized vessels, and also provides repair services. [27/12/13]
