Workers evacuated as fire on Pemex platform is contained

Almost 100 workers were evacuated on Saturday from a platform run by Pemex after fire broke out there, according to Reuters.

The Zaap-e platform was being installed in the most productive of Mexico’s offshore fields the Ku-Maloob-Zaap, which is located in shallow waters of the Bay of Campeche. The fire happened in a machine room and was quickly brought under control.

A total of 97 workers were taken off the rig, with none reporting injuries.

Pemex, Mexico’s state oil firm, said that with the platform not scheduled to go operational for another eight months, this incident had no impact on production.
