World Marine Offshore vessel hit by fire

A fire incident occurred on World Marine Offshore’s crew transfer vessel  World Calima at Nordsee OST wind farm in the German North Sea yesterday.

The crew of the vessel noticed heavy smoke in the engine room when the vessel was at the project site, managing to contain the fire by shutting the engine room and activating the emergency fire control system.

Germany’s Maritime Search and Rescue Service evacuated eight technicians onboard the vessel using rescue vessel Hermann Marwede after receiving a distress call, while the rest of the crew remained onboard.

Nearby OSV Windea Two towed the vessel outside the wind farm zone to avoid a collision with any wind turbines.

No injuries were reported from the incident.
