Xi: China imports to crack $10trn by 2017

Beijing: Xi Jinping, the new president of China, pledged on Sunday at the Boao Forum that change and peaceful development will power the nation’s economic rise and sustain growth within its borders.

China will vigorously promote development and prosperity in both Asia and the world, he said. Since the beginning of the new century, China's trade with its neighbours has grown from $100bn to more than $1.3trn. Xi said it is projected that in the coming five years, China's imports will reach some $10trn, while its outbound investment will reach $500bn.
Last year, China imported goods of $1.8 rn, an increase of 4.3% year-on-year. [08/04/13]
