Yangtze River Delta ECA launch brought forward

Chinese authorities have brought forward emission control area (ECA) plans by three months.

Major ports around the Yangtze River Delta (YRD), including Shanghai and Ningbo, will now impose a 0.5% sulphur cap on ships from October 1, rather than the earlier stated date of January 1, 2019.

The rest of the Chinese coastline will likely follow the YRD’s lead at the start of next year, one year ahead of the IMO-mandated global sulphur cap.
