Zhongtian Technology enters offshore engineering market

Zhongtian Technology, a Chinese manufacturer of telecom and cable equipment, has signed an agreement to set up a new offshore engineering base at Yangkou Port in Jiangsu.

The company plans to invest RMB1bn ($146m) to order two cable-laying vessels, and to transform itself from a cable manufacturer to an offshore engineering contractor.

According the Zhongtian Technology, it will serve the offshore wind farm in Rudong, Jiangsu and enter the Southeast Asia and the Middle East market in the next five to ten years.

The market for offshore wind energy in China is currently gaining momentum. China plans to install offshore wind power plants with a total capacity of 30 GW by 2020.

The Jiangsu Rudong offshore wind farm, with an installed capacity of 150MW, is China’s largest offshore wind firm so far.
