Zodiac Maritime linked to Hanjin cape pair

Shipping heavyweight Zodiac Maritime remains busy in the sales and purchase market. Numerous broking reports list an unidentified UK buyer as paying $52m en bloc for two ex-Hanjin capes, the Hanjin Port Walcott and its sister ship, Hanjin Newcastle. Both ships had been laid up in Hong Kong for the past 10 months.

Reliable broking sources link Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Maritime to the deal. Zodiac Maritime has almost been making headlines throughout the year, adding ships in various shipping segments.

After the sale Splash understand there is now just one unsold Hanjin ship left – the Hanjin Green, a 2011-built general cargo ship.

August 31 will mark the first anniversary since Hanjin, once South Korea’s largest shipping line, announced its bankruptcy.
