Greek owner Alassia Newships Management and Japanese trading house Itochu Corp have partnered up for a handysize newbuilding contract at Nakanishi Shipbuilding in Japan.
Yangzhou Nakanishi Shipbuilding in Jiangsu Province, China, will take on the 40,000 dwt project, with delivery expected in 2026.
Itochu made headlines earlier this year with a pair of ultramax bulkers at Chinese builder New Dayang and has also joined forces with the Singapore arm of Taiwanese shipowner U-Ming Marine Transport to jointly own and operate ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers.
Athens-based Alassia Newships is currently listed with eight owned bulkers, most built in Japan, and three under construction, delivering this and next year from Oshima. No price has been revealed for the fourth newbuild, which, according to the company’s website, has been designed by Japan’s Mitsui.
