ASP Ships names new chief executive for Asia

Australia’s ASP Ships has appointed Christian Riis as its new chief executive officer of Asia.

Riis joins the Melbourne-headquartered shipmanagement and services firm from Rio Tinto where he led the mining giant’s marine safety & welfare strategy and execution.

ASP said Riis, who will head up the business in Singapore, is poised to lead the company through its next phase of growth and development.

ASP Ships Group delivers services from a network of 12 offices in 10 countries, including technical management, technical support, crew management, newbuilding supervision, and marine logistics.

“I am honoured to join ASP Ships Group in Singapore at this pivotal time,” said Riis, adding: “The industry has been undergoing rapid changes in recent years, and I expect clients’ requirements to continue increasing in the coming years.”

Riis noted the industry is changing at an ever faster pace, including the ongoing digital transformation, but also the urgent need for decarbonisation of the world’s fleet, more advanced vessels, and compliance with more complex regulations.

“To meet these requirements, the industry must attract and retain talent, and at ASP, we have a sustained commitment to offer a safe and healthy workplace where diversity, mental health, and well-being are our highest priorities,” he said.
