Atlas Maritime adds two suezmax tankers to orderbook

Leon Patitsas-led Atlas Maritime has ordered two suezmax tankers from South Korea’s DH Shipbuilding.

Atlas Maritime has ordered the vessels in partnership with Danish shipping investment firm European Maritime Finance (EMF). The two 157,000 dwt ships will be dual-fuel capable with LNG readiness and eco-class designation.

The deal between the parties was signed on Tuesday on Patitsas’ superyacht Bliss during this year’s edition of Posidonia in Athens, Greece.

These are the 20th and 21st newbuildings ordered by the two, 17 of which have been placed with DH Shipbuilding. Reports claim that the company has ordered 25 vessels since November 2019, worth in excess of $2bn.

These latest suezmax tankers, to be named Odin Star and Olympic Star – according to EMF, will join the existing six vessels already in the production pipeline, bringing the total to eight sister vessels.

In March, Atlas Maritime ordered three 93,000 cu m very large ammonia carriers at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea. The deliveries will be completed by December 2027.
