d’Amico exercises option to buy MR tanker

Italian product tanker owner and operator d’Amico International Shipping has exercised a purchase option for a 50,000 dwt medium-range product tanker.

The company’s operating subsidiary d’Amico Tankers used the purchase option on the 2017-built Crimson Jade built in Japan by Minaminippon Shipbuilding.

The vessel was bought for a consideration of approximately $31m with delivery expected in July 2024.

As of today, the d’Amico fleet comprises 33 double-hulled product tankers (MR, handysize and LR1) of which 25 are owned, five are chartered-in, and three are bareboat chartered-in with an average age of about 8.8 years for its owned and bareboat chartered-in vessels.

“Through this transaction, we continue to pursue our long-term goal of owning a young and efficient product tanker fleet. Additionally, thanks to this deal, we managed to acquire a very good ship at an attractive purchase price, approximately 29% lower than its current market value,” said Carlos di Mottola, CEO of d’Amico International Shipping.

Earlier this week, d’Amico signed a new three-year time charter deal for one of its MR2 eco vessels. The charter will start between the end of the second quarter of 2024 and the beginning of the third quarter of 2024.
