Heerema Marine Contractors wins offshore wind work in Baltic Sea

Dutch offshore construction player Heerema Marine Contractors has been awarded contracts for work on offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.

The company won the deals from MFW Baltyk II and MFW Baltyk III, each a joint venture project owned 50-50 by Equinor and Polenergia.

They will include work on the Baltyk 2 and Baltyk 3 projects some 27 km and 40 km from the port of Leba in Poland. The scope of the contracts includes the transportation and installation of 100 monopiles and transition pieces, sourced from European fabrication yards and installed in the Baltic Sea.

Additionally, Heerema will handle the transportation and installation of offshore substation jackets and topsides. Heerema will utilize its heavy lift vessel Thialf for the operations.

The Baltyk 2 & 3 wind farms are expected to have a combined generation capacity of 1.44GW, which will supply electricity to more than two million households.
