Jan De Nul lines up Taiwanese wind farm contract

Belgian marine contractor Jan De Nul has signed a preferred supplier agreement with Danish fund manager and renewable energy developer Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners to transport and install about 90 km of subsea cables at the Fengmiao 1 wind farm in Taiwan.

The scope of work covers the connection of the Fengmiao 1 offshore substation to the onshore grid of Taiwan via two AC high-voltage cables. The project will be carried out by Jan De Nul’s cable-laying vessel Willem de Vlamingh.

The 500 MW Fengmiao 1 will be located approximately 35 km off the coast of Taichung in central Taiwan. The construction is planned to start in 2025 and the project is expected to enter into commercial operation in 2027. The wind farm is part of the larger Fengmiao project with a total capacity of 1,800 MW.

Earlier this year, CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE), a joint venture between Taiwanese shipbuilder CSBC Corporation and DEME Offshore from Belgium sealed a deal to transport and install jacket foundations for the project.
