Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Electrical Manager in leading and supervising a team of electrical engineers, technicians, and support staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise as needed.
- Supporting the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems on ships, including power generation, distribution, propulsion, and control systems.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including naval architects, marine engineers, and other stakeholders, to ensure the seamless integration of electrical systems into ship designs and compatibility with overall vessel requirements.
- Participating in the development and implementation of electrical maintenance strategies, schedules, and procedures to ensure the reliability and availability of shipboard electrical systems.
- Assisting in conducting regular inspections, tests, and audits of electrical equipment and systems to identify deficiencies, ensure compliance with regulations, and mitigate risks.
- Providing technical support and assisting in troubleshooting efforts to resolve electrical issues, failures, and emergencies on board ships.
- Assisting in managing procurement activities related to electrical components, equipment, and spare parts, ensuring timely availability and cost-effective solutions.
- Supporting liaison efforts with classification societies, regulatory authorities, and other relevant organizations to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and regulations.
- Assisting in the implementation of energy management initiatives and efficiency improvement measures to optimize the performance and sustainability of electrical systems.
- Supporting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to electrical failures, accidents, or incidents on ships.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field. Additional certifications or specialized training in marine electrical systems are advantageous.
- Relevant experience minimum 10 years in electrical engineering, preferably with exposure to marine with 4-6 years of shipboard systems.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to effectively support and collaborate with a diverse team of professionals.
- Working knowledge of electrical principles, standards, and regulations applicable to marine environments (e.g., IEC, NEC, ABS, IMO).
- Familiarity with electrical design software, CAD tools, and simulation programs used in marine engineering (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, MATLAB) is desirable.
- Basic understanding of project management principles and practices, with the ability to assist in budgeting and resource allocation for electrical projects on ships.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to various stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and challenging environment, with a strong commitment to safety and quality.
