JOB SUMMARY
The Designer will be responsible for conceptualising and creating detailed designs for yacht interiors and exteriors, working closely with the Design Manager and various stakeholders. This role requires hands-on experience in yacht design, proficiency in SolidWorks, and a background in engineering. The position also involves liaising with suppliers, attending client meetings, and continuously improving existing and new product lines.

Our Client is a prominent player in the Marine Industry based in Cape Town, South Africa. They specialising in the design and manufacture of sailing and power catamarans. Renowned for their performance, durability, and seaworthiness, the Client's vessels are highly sought after by both private owners and charter companies.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT

In order to be shortlisted for vacancy, the successful candidate will have the following skills and competencies, but not limited to:

  • Qualification:
    • Ideal: Btech/ B-degree (NQF Level 7) in Engineering
    • Minimum: National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Engineering
  • +5 years relevant yacht design or engineering experience in a composite manufacturing environment.
  • Basic knowledge of server maintenance.
  • Full knowledge of Solidworks and EPDM support.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office package (especially Excel).

JOB DESCRIPTION

The role responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

Product Conceptualisation

  • Assist with and review the design brief as created by the Design Manager.
  • Extract major goal(s) through analysis of the brief, and outline steps to achieve these goals.
  • Study major market leaders with respect to price and features.
  • Define major parameters (Length overall, Beam, etc.).
  • Assist with cost breakdown and management throughout the design phases.
  • Conceptualise and create models from scratch of the interior and exterior of a yacht based on a design brief.
  • Create 2D drawings of proposed new products, including:
    • Interior Arrangement Plan
    • Outboard Profile
    • Deck Plan
    • Major systems layout
  • Assist with weight study.
  • Assist in creating Design Packs for sign-off.
  • Assign material specifications.
  • Create bills of materials, standard equipment lists, and option lists.
  • Create material for publicity purposes.

Stakeholder Support

  • Create client approval documentation packs.
  • Liaise directly with new and existing suppliers to develop or find new products.
  • Liaise with naval architects and interior designers.
  • Conduct factory visits.
  • Provide a key role in prototype build support.

Customer Support

  • Represent R&C in meetings with clients related to design issues.
  • Attend boat shows as needed.

Operational Support

  • Solve problems on existing boat lines.
  • Collaborate with members of all departments in a team-oriented environment.
  • Pursue continuous improvement on existing and new product lines.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of new product launches and boating trends.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

A market related salary based on the level of responsibility for this role is on offer.
