Direct Search Global is working with one of the world’s largest shipbuilders to fill the role of Lead Steel Structural Designer in China. This role is a 2-year contract employment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team comprising steel structural designers and drafters to execute structural design tasks.
- Supervise and offer design guidance to team members.
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and review the team’s work.
- Adhere to the Client’s modularization philosophy for steel structural design activities.
- Prepare structural layout drawings, node connection drawings, and related design documentation to standardize designs.
- Generate and review primary structural drawings, as well as secondary and tertiary structural drawings, along with typical details, and conduct material take-offs.
- Conduct design clash checks and participate in design model reviews.
- Prepare team estimates and work plans aligning with project scope, schedule, and budget; oversee implementation accordingly.
- Evaluate staffing requirements, schedule tasks, and assign responsibilities to meet project timelines.
- Review design documents from other disciplines, equipment manufacturers, or subcontractors, and provide feedback and recommendations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess expertise in modularized project layout and design, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in steel structural design.
- Have comprehensive knowledge of major industry standards and design criteria used in structural detail design within the Process Industry.
- Familiarity with major equipment in the process industry and its operational and maintenance requirements.
- Understanding of safety-related design requirements in modularized projects.
- Basic knowledge of steel structural stress analysis.
- Acquainted with modularized project construction and installation procedures.
- Proficient in industry-standard 2D and 3D design tools, ideally including TEKLA Structure.
- Understanding of the roles of other disciplines in projects and key information interfaces, including construction engineering, equipment support, piping support, E&I support, and process safety input.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Hold at least a diploma in engineering or a related scientific discipline from a college.
- Completion of specialized training courses in relevant general engineering, particularly in structural 3D modeling.
- Extensive progressive experience in steel structural design on projects in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, LNG, or similar sectors.
