Maritime Technology Leadership Opportunity in Shanghai

Our client, a foremost international maritime organisation, is seeking to appoint a Manager of Technology for their Shanghai branch.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader and the go-to expert in the client’s operations. The role involves leading critical innovation initiatives and generating project ideas in line with our client’s strategic aims, while also addressing the rapidly expanding demands of the industry.

You will spearhead the Ship Design and Innovation Centre located in Shanghai, China, augmenting our client’s worldwide network of technology hubs and advancing our commitment to safety regionally and globally.

Your duties will include forming and nurturing a broad network of partners, scouting new project opportunities, and overseeing projects to fruition with internal and external stakeholders. The projects will be centred on pioneering technologies that propel digitalisation and decarbonisation throughout the shipping value chain and lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the Centre’s research into new technology maturity, targeting a variety of innovative maritime technologies.
  • Employ modelling and simulation for design assessment, virtual trials, plan appraisal, and optimisation of ship operation.
  • Use digital twinning for ongoing condition monitoring, maintenance, surveys, and operational efficiency.
  • Apply visualisation technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality.
  • Implement cutting-edge technologies in shipbuilding.
  • Guide the Centre in crafting guidelines and classification standards for applying novel technology in the marine and offshore sectors.
  • Ideate projects that align with our client’s vision and industrial movements.
  • Cultivate a wide-reaching network of collaborators from industry, academia, and government for collaborative research efforts. Assemble and steer project teams to strategise and implement these projects.
  • Exhibit thought leadership by producing technical papers, presenting at conferences, and participating in panel discussions.

Requirements: Education & Experience

  • An Engineering degree or its recognised equivalent is mandatory. A Master’s or PhD in a relevant field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a related area is favoured.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • You must be a Chinese citizen or have permanent residency in China.
  • Expertise in maritime/offshore platforms and their systems, including electrical, power, and propulsion mechanisms.
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of classification, marine & offshore industries/technologies, and client relations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership abilities to coordinate, direct, and inspire team members. Must be capable of shouldering significant personal responsibility.
