Shipyard Project Manager

Essential Job Duties:

The ideal candidate will plan and coordinate activities of designated ship repair projects to ensure that goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters.

As the Project Manager Superintendent, you will perform essential duties and responsibilities personally or through coordination with production departments.

Responsibilities

  • Must liaison between the ship owner representatives and production supervisory staff. Responsible for completion of all authorized work onboard the ship.
  • Responsible for budget, schedule, and quality for the project assigned.
  • Responsible to establish the contract baseline and for maintaining that baseline for the life of the project
  • Establish budgets and approve schedules for the project
  • Determine the scope of the work package, evaluates the ability of the Production Department to support the work package, and recommends modification of the work package
  • Approve all time charges and material expenditures, unless he specifically delegates some of those duties to his assigned Supervisors
  • Work closely with his assigned Shipyard Supervisors and ensure that they understand their areas of responsibility and that they spend 75-80% of their time on the deck plates
  • Physical progress is accomplished each week and that cost projections for reviewed for any corrective action required
  • Review and redistribute the project estimate in order to establish craft budgets
  • Approve all subcontracts and requests for temporary labor
  • Verify that all subcontract purchase order values are kept current and that increases and decreases are processed quickly so that job cost can be determined
  • Compare labor expenditures against the spending plan and report any variation and explain them
  • Approve all requests for material and rental equipment
  • Provide feedback to the estimators all work items that are more than 10% over or under budget
  • Overall responsibility for schedule adherence
  • Represent the company in discussions with the customer regarding schedule and support the contract group in developing support for schedule impact on change orders when warranted
  • Assist in developing and implementing any recovery schedule
  • The primary point of contact with the customer
  • Responsible for collection of physical progress each week for their jobs
  • Work closely with the representatives from various classification societies and governing agencies

Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in engineering and three to five years of relevant experience in ship construction or repair preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience that enables performance of all aspects of the position.
  • Minimum 5 years of marine ship repair supervisory experience with a broad range of

knowledge in alterations, repair and upgrades of shipboard systems that include mechanical, electrical, pipe and structural welding/fitting

  • Must have experience in managing large shipboard projects within a shipyard environment, managing subcontractors, estimating and planning work packages, and supervising a crew of multiple trades
  • Must be able to comply with all Safety rules
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

 

Additional:

  • Full-time position
  • Normal work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM (1 hour meal break included)
  • Work will be inclusive to environments both indoors and outdoors at all times of the year.
  • Overtime as required – Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Pay commensurate with experience.
  • Bilingual a plus
