SCOPE OF DUTIES
The duties of the DP Specialist & Technical Instructor shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
• Conducts analysis and confers with operations leadership, functional subject matter specialists and others to determine relevant training needs
• Reviews and keeps abreast of any DP related incidents; integrating “lessons learned” into DP training curricula
• Manages DP CAAP and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs including maintaining curriculum and ensuring mariner completion compliance
• Operates and maintains all aspects of the Company’s DP simulator equipment, including troubleshooting, communicating with vendors, updating software as necessary, and configuring simulation of both Company and industry DP events
• Compiles data and analyzes previous and current year training requirements in order to prepare budgets and justify funds requested
• Selects appropriate instructional procedures or methods such as individual training, group instruction, self-study, lectures, demonstrations, simulation exercises, role play, and computer-based training
• Assists with obtaining and maintains the Simulator Training Program’s OSVDPA and Nautical Institute accreditations
• Organizes and develops relevant training manuals, reference library, testing and evaluation procedures, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in any maritime related or training related coursework preferred; credentialed mariner with DP certificate from the Nautical Institute or OSVDPA is required.
Experience: Five to seven years of experience sailing as an officer with at least one year of training and development experience.
Skills:
• Working knowledge of adult learning concepts is preferred.
• Multi-lingual capabilities are preferred (English, Spanish/Portuguese).
• Excellent presentation skills, including written and verbal communication skills, and experience building successful relationships and partnerships at all organizational levels.
• Ability to speak in front of a group and be easily understood.
• Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, ensure confidentiality, and work with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention-to-detail, troubleshooting and critical thinking skills required.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations related to DP and training.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of mariners, managers, executives, clients, and customers as needed.
• Ability to proactively collaborate with others.
• Must be willing to board and ride vessels to increase understanding of how this role supports our business.
