MOL joint venture grows offshore wind fleet with third newbuild at Damen

Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has ordered another offshore wind farm vessel via its Taiwanese joint venture with Ta Tong Marine.

Ta San Shang Marine (TSSM) has returned to Dutch shipbuilder Damen Shipyards for a service operation vessel (SOV) newbuilding slated for delivery at the end of 2026. No price has been revealed.

The 87.7-m-long vessel will be built in Vietnam. It is designed to be methanol-ready and will serve offshore wind farms in Taiwan, which are set for buildout and operation in the late 2020s.

This is the joint venture’s third newbuild SOV, following the TSS Pioneer delivered in 2022, and the TSS Cruiser, which was ordered last November and is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2025.

“We are confident that the SOV will not only make TSSM the dominant SOV player in Taiwan but will also serve as a stepping stone for the development of MOL’s SOV business in Asia, including Japan,” said Masayuki Sugiyama, MOL’s head of wind power business.
