Shelf Drilling pens $17m UK North Sea jack-up deal

Offshore drilling firm Shelf Drilling has secured a contract for the Shelf Drilling Fortress jack-up rig with China’s offshore oil and gas producer CNOOC.

The contract was awarded to the offshore driller subsidiary, Shelf Drilling North Sea, by CNOOC Petroleum Europe Limited.

Under the deal, the Shelf Drilling Fortress – formerly known as the Noble Sam Hartley – will operate at the Golden Eagle platform in the UK Central North Sea.

The firm term of the contract is two wells and will last between four and five months. The contract value for the firm period is around $17m.

The contract also includes options for additional wells with a total estimated duration of 13 months. The planned start-up of operations is September 2023.
