Transka Tankers books MR1 newbuilds at Wuhu

Turkey’s Transka Tankers has set out to expand its fleet with MR1 newbuilds in China.

The shipping unit of Akbasoglu Holdings has signed for four 40,800 dwt product carriers at Wuhu Shipyard for delivery in 2027.

No price has been divulged for the SDARI-designed 180-m-long newbuilds which meet the EEDI Phase 3 requirements.

Transka’s fleet currently stands at more than 10 ships comprised of small chemical tankers and MR1s. The latter were mostly picked up from the secondhand market with the most recent acquisition recorded in March this year.
