Lomar bulks up with supramax and kamsarmax buys

Lomar Shipping continues to grow its bulk carrier fleet with the addition of two more Chinese-built vessels.

The UK-based shipping subsidiary of Libra Group has purchased the 2010-built supramax Chris from Greece’s Seadar Shipmanagement for a reported price of $12.5m. The Cosco Guangdong-built 56,838 dwt ship will be renamed the Rome Trader.

Libra has also confirmed Lomar taking Novamaris’ 2011-built kamsarmax Joy. The 79,500 dwt ship will deliver over the next two months for around $14m and be renamed Athens Trader.

The transactions follow on from several Lomar bulker purchases this year. In May, the company revealed picking up a trio of supramaxes estimated at nearly $43m and in mid-June confirmed the purchase of three Chinese-built panamaxes for a sum close to $50m.
