Ships in near miss with missile attacks off Yemen

Two unidentified merchant vessels have reported an attack off Yemen.

Maritime security consultancy Ambrey said it received a report that a ship was suspiciously approached 68 nautical miles southwest of Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah and had undergone what it described as a “missile attack.”

Another unnamed ship reported an incident some 33 nautical miles south of Mokha. The projectile reportedly hit the water 0.2 nautical miles aft of the vessel.

The two vessels were transiting 2 to 5 nautical miles from each other during both incidents, Ambrey said.

In a separate note, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an incident some 98 nautical miles south of Hodeidah, with “a missile impacting the water in close proximity” to the ship.

No injuries or damages were reported, and the vessel is proceeding to the next port of call, the UKMTO said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility by Houthi militants, but if confirmed, the strike will be the latest in months of attacks on ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. On Saturday, they hit a Panamanian-flagged and Greek-owned tanker southwest of Yemen’s port city of Mokha.
