TEN sells veteran aframax as fleet renewal presses ahead

Greek owner Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) has confirmed the sale of an ageing aframax tanker as it continues its fleet renewal push.

The New York-listed tanker and LNG carrier owner has offloaded the 2007 Sumitomo-built Izumo Princess for about $37m.

The buyer was not named, but shipping databases show the 105,500 dwt vessel under ownership by Seychelles-registered Noble Sphere Corp and renamed Thorin.

TEN offloaded nine first-generation vessels in the last 12 months and recently took delivery of its LNG-powered aframax tankers as well as snapped up five modern tankers from Viken Shipping. The company currently has 74 ships, including seven newbuilds to be delivered.

“This subsequent 10th transaction underscores TEN’s commitment to divest from its first-generation assets and enhance its green footprint through the acquisition and building of state-of-the art eco-vessels to meet the transportation needs of our blue-chip clientele,” said George Saroglou, president and chief of operations at TEN.
