Saipem scores big with $3.7bn in Angola deals from TotalEnergies

Only days after Italian offshore engineering and construction giant Saipem won an $850m deal in Angola with Azule Energy, it won even bigger deals in the country with French major TotalEnergies. The three new contracts awarded by TotalEnergies will have an overall value of around $3.7bn.

These awards come after TotalEnergies, along with its Block 20/11 partners – Petronas and Sonangol, made a final investment decision on its Kaminho deepwater project, located 100 km off the Angolan coast and consisting of the Cameia and Golfinho fields.

The Kaminho project will be the first large deepwater development in the Kwanza basin and will have an FPSO unit on the field converted from a VLCC, connected to a subsea production network. The FPSO will be all-electric and associated gas will be fully reinjected into the reservoirs. Production start-up is expected in 2028, with a plateau of 70,000 barrels of oil per day.

The Kaminho project will involve over 10 million man-hours in Angola, mainly with offshore operations and construction at local yards.

As for the deals, the first contract refers to the engineering, procurement, construction, transportation, and commissioning of the Kaminho FPSO.

The second contract entails the operation and maintenance of the FPSO unit for a firm period of 12 years with a potential eight-year extension.

The last contract involves the engineering, procurement, supply, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, and assistance for the commissioning and start-up of a SURF package which includes approximately 30 km of 8” and 10″ subsea flowlines and risers, and umbilicals. The associated structures will be fabricated in Saipem’s local yard in Ambriz.

For the offshore campaign, and specifically for the J-lay vessel, Saipem will deploy its FDS vessel and will involve the local supply chain for logistics and fabrication activities.
