Maran Gas Maritime, a unit of Greece’s Angelicoussis Shipping Group, is back at its favoured yard, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), signing a contract to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for about $380m.
The 174,000 cu m LNG carriers to be built at DSME’s Okpo shipyard in Korea and scheduled for delivery by the end of 2021. John Angelicoussis has now ordered an impressive 104 ships at DSME since 1994.
In related news, Maran Tankers, another Angelicoussis vehicle, has headed back to South Korea for another suezmax. According to Clarkson Research, Maran Tankers has placed a single order at Daehan Shipbuilding for a 157,000 dwt tanker.
The contact takes Maran’s suezmax tally on order at Daehan to three. This latest ship will deliver by the end of next year with Daehan now close to filling out its available slots for 2020.
