Cosco ship detained in Colombia for arms smuggling
Shanghai: A China-flagged ship sailing to Cuba was detained by Colombian authorities for transporting arms illegally, Reuter has reported.
The vessel Da Dan Xia, operated by state run shipping giant Cosco, was detained in the Cartagena port on the Caribbean coast, after the illegal materials were detected during inspection.
According to Luis Gonzalez, the national director of the attorney general’s office, around 100 tonnes of powder, 2.6m detonators, 99 projectiles and around 3,000 cannon shells were found. The cargo was listed as grain products.
The ship’s captain has been arrested and could be charged with illegal transport of military materials.
