Pantheon Tankers in for VLCC brace at Dalian

Greece’s Pantheon Tankers has emerged as the latest owner with orders for VLCCs in China.

Brokers report the Anna Angelicoussis Kanellakis-backed owner of nearly 40 tankers signing up for a pair of 307,000 dwt newbuilds at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) with deliveries in 2027.

Genoa-based shipbroking group Banchero Costa has placed the price tag on each ship at around $120m.

Pantheon lists 39 ships in its fleet on its website and four LR2 units booked at Cosco Heavy Industry. The company was also placed behind an order for another pair of 115,000 dwt ships at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang last year.

With one of the smallest orderbooks of all sectors and only a handful of VLCCs delivering this and next year, many shipowners and even charterers such as Trafigura have jumped on available newbuilding slots.
