Stena Line ferry and tanker collide off Sweden
Gothenburg: Stena Line Roro ferry Stena Jutlandica has been involved in a collision around 2:45am this morning with a tanker off the island of Vinga, which is located ten nautical miles outside Gothenburg’s harbour entrance.
The ferry ended up with a hole portside several metres wide and was taking on water, however it managed to reach Gothenburg without any assistance or injuries. Stena Jutlandics has capacity to carry 1500 passengers and 550 cars, although it is not known how many passengers were on board at the time of the accident.
The tanker has not been named yet by local media, however it is believed to be Danish product tanker Ternvind (11,258 dwt, built 2008), which left Gothenburg en route to Halmstad late on Saturday night. AIS data shows the Terntank-owned vessel currently located near the scene of the accident.
There are no reports of any oil leakage, and investigations into the cause of the incident have begun.
