A joint venture between Greece’s Chandris and a UK-based gas shipping subsidiary of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has clinched charter contracts.
K Line LNG Shipping (K-LNG) and Chandris have entered into long-term time charter contracts with BP for two LNG carrier newbuildings.
The vessels, which will have a capacity of 173,400 cu m, will be constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering South Korea. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled for 2018. It is expected that the vessels will primarily be engaged in the transportation of LNG from the Freeport LNG project in Texas. K-LNG will undertake ship management of the two vessels. No financial details of the charters were revealed.
