Bunker barge holed following collision off Peterhead
A bunker vessel has been towed to Peterhead after colliding with a general cargo ship in Scottish waters late yesterday afternoon.
A lifeboat was deployed by the Aberdeen coastguard as two crew on the 24 m long Erin Wood bunker barge reported the ship was taking on water at around 1700 hrs yesterday. The barge had collided with the Cyprus registered Daroja (4,155 dwt; built 1997). The barge has suffered a serious gash below the waterline having been hit by the general cargo ship’s bow. The barge listed heavily as water entered a ballast chamber. Coastguard members managed to pump out water from the barge before a fishing vessel towed the barge to a nearby harbour.
The Daroja, owned by Germany’s Hinsch Reederei, also moored at the same harbour pending an investigation into the accident.
