Almi Tankers vessel hit by pirates in Singapore Strait
An aframax tanker owned by Greece’s Almi Tankers, Almi Spirit (105,571 dwt, built 2007), was boarded by at least six pirates this morning in the Singapore Strait.
The incident happened at 05:40am local time this morning according to Almi Tankers. A spokesperson told Splash that the intruders were reported in the engine room by the crew. Security procedures were immediately activated and the intruders abandoned the ship. “Everybody on board is safe and unharmed,” they said.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s leftenan (lieutenant) Sufin confirmed to Splash that the vessel was on its way to Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia carrying marine fuel oil, and was boarded by at least six robbers while in Indonesian waters.
MMEA intercepted the tanker which is now in waters off Tanjung Pelepas.
