Alexander Tebbe, 34, the co-founder of Hamburg MPP owner Auerbach Schiffahrt, has quit the firm to take a belated gap year travelling the world. Fellow founder Lucius Bunk, 37, will take sole charge of the company. Described in local media as “pop stars” compared to typical staid Hamburg owners, the pair have built up a fleet of six ships with another four on order in China.
Both Bunk and Tebbe (pictured left and right respectively) had previously been with Ernst Russ, before coming up their shipowning model of equity participation, with an exclusive focus on MPPs.
“We believe that the exclusive focus on the multipurpose market allows us to optimally utilise economies of scale, to build up and strengthen a clear brand and to establish ourselves as a market participant in a clearly defined industry,” Bunk told Maritime CEO in an interview this March.
