Scottish port operator fined over crane death

A port operator has been fined £300,000 ($426,000) after a worker was crushed to death on a crane.

Mechanical engineer Craig Logan, 22, was killed in February last year after being trapped while checking a fault that had halted the machine at Hunterston coal terminal in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Operator Clydeport Ltd admitted health and safety breaches by failing to make risk assessments and ensure safe working systems between July 2014 and February 2015.
