SBM Offshore has revealed US authorities have reopened an inquiry into bribery allegations involving the Dutch company. SBM paid out $240m in November 2014 over some $200m bribes paid in a four year period ending in 2011. It has set aside another $245m for a possible settlement in Brazil, linked to the Petrobras corruption scandal.
The US Department of Justice is probing SBM’s antics in Brazil.
“We will of course answer those questions and cooperate. At this point we are not being prosecuted. It is just a normal process which is happening,” SBM Offshore chief executive Bruno Chabas told journalists on Wednesday.
