The ultramax newbuilding reported sold yesterday by Belships is to replace one of the company’s supramaxes on a long-term timecharter to Canpotex.
Belocean (58,000 dwt, built 2011) will end its charter with the Canadian potash exporter on around February 25 and will be replaced with the newbuilding Belisland (61,000 dwt) for the remaining five-year period of the charter at a net rate of $17,300 daily.
From the end of February, Belocean will begin a period charter to Cargill for 10 to 15 months at an an average net rate of $3,750 per day.
Belisland was reported sold yesterday to Japanese interests and has been leased back to Belships. The ultramax is due for delivery around March 15 from the Imabari Shipbuilding in Japan, the Oslo-listed company said.
