Port of Virginia reopens after storm passes on
Commercial vessels are able to enter and depart the Port of Virginia again after the US Coast Guard’s Captain of the Port for Sector Hampton Roads lifted a ban imposed on Friday because of the threat from Winter Storm Helena.
Fear of zero visibility in predicted blizzard conditions led to the precautionary measure, which affected all the four major marine terminals at the port in the harbour of Hampton Roads.
The storm moved on from the Mid-Atlantic and Hampton Roads regions on Sunday after dumping heavy snowfall on the area, with 7-9 inches recorded at the terminals.
